03 · Shade guide

Darkness, explained.

Tint is measured in VLT: the share of visible light that gets through. Lower means darker. Pick your vehicle and a window to see what Florida allows.

Vehicle
Window
Shade (VLT)
35% VLT

Florida measures film and factory glass together on your vehicle, and factory glass already blocks some light. Reflectance limits also apply (25% front, 35% rear). Medical exemptions exist under F.S. 316.29545. Source: F.S. 316.2953, 316.2954.

04 · Film

Film, in plain terms.

Three numbers describe almost every film. Ask for them on any quote, ours included.

VLT

Visible light transmission

How much daylight gets through. 70% looks nearly clear. 5% is limo dark. It controls privacy and glare, not heat on its own.

IR · TSER

Heat rejection

Infrared rejection and total solar energy rejected (TSER) describe heat. A light film can reject more heat than a dark one.

UV

Ultraviolet rejection

UV fades seats, floors and fabrics. Most quality films list their UV rejection on the manufacturer spec sheet.

07 · Questions

Good questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask it in the quote form. A person reads every one.

How dark can I tint my car in Florida?

Front side windows must let in at least 28% of visible light. Rear side windows and the back glass must let in at least 15% on cars, or at least 6% on multipurpose vehicles such as SUVs, trucks and vans. On the windshield, only a non-reflective strip above the AS-1 line is allowed.

Reflectance is limited to 25% on the front sides and 35% behind the driver. The law measures the film and glass together, on your vehicle.

How do I choose the best window tinting in Fort Myers?

Ask four things before you book:

1. Which film line and manufacturer, with the spec sheet.
2. The exact VLT on each window, and whether it is legal for your vehicle in Florida.
3. What the manufacturer warranty covers, and who handles a claim.
4. How the edges and the dotted border on the glass are finished.

A good installer answers all four in writing. Every Tinting World quote does.

What is ceramic window film?

Ceramic film uses non-metallic ceramic particles to absorb and reject heat. Because it has no metal in it, it doesn't interfere with phone, GPS or radio signals. Ask for the manufacturer's spec sheet for exact numbers.

Can you remove my old tint?

Yes. Mark "old tint removal" in the quote form and we'll include it in your estimate.

Do you tint homes and businesses?

Yes. We install film on residential windows and doors, and on offices, storefronts and commercial buildings across Southwest Florida.

How do I get a price?

Request a free quote online or call. Prices depend on the vehicle, or the number and size of windows, and the film you choose, so we confirm them after a few details.

Is there a warranty?

Warranty coverage depends on the film line. Your quote names the manufacturer and the warranty terms that come with that film.
